Week 7

Welp another one down, this week was kind of hectic but at the same time kind of slow.

Elder Benson got ET’d which some of you maybe saw on my facebook story. He went to Colleville to sub someone out who is leaving to their original assignment. It’s sad to see him head out after such short time as comps together. He will now be a zone leader up there, working with the AP’s and President Chapman so he’ll be great.

Super funny experience. Elder Layton and I were knocking doors and we met a family who spoke only Spanish.  Elder Layton knows some VERY broken Spanish. They invite us in. This family also has a son who knows VERY broken English. Haha. Elder Layton was trying his very best to communicate with the son and the family in broken Spanish and in English. He was trying so hard to teach them the restoration. They said they have met with missionaries before and they showed us a Book of Mormon. At this point I was thinking this family was golden and Elder Layton was getting more and more excited. In a matter of minutes, the mom walks over with her phone in her hand and types into google translate… “we are members.” HAHAHHA oh I will never let it go. Elder Layton was trying SOOOO hard to teach them! He was using hand gestures and some miming to help teach. It was so funny! Anyways, we saw them at the church the next day at a little fiesta for the Spanish ward, ahh so funny!!

Our main goal this week was to expand our teaching pool. We have some very promising people and I can’t wait to meet with them again. It is difficult for people to keep their appointments but we just keep trying.

Quote of the week… “Stay afraid… but do it anyway”. All the lord asks of us is to do our very best… in Ether 12:27 it talks about weaknesses becoming strengths in our life when we ask God in humble, faithful prayer. This week I put it upon myself to do that. I am a shy person and it is difficult for me to put myself out there, but as I prayed to God to help me with that, to be more outgoing in all I do, I found more courage to do things I would never do. This week I strived to go out of my way and speak. I would yell across the street to get someone’s attention and just ask them if they wanted to know more about Jesus Christ. Or I would roll down my window at a red light and ask the person next to me if they wanted to learn more about Jesus Christ or the Book of Mormon. Looking back on the week, I see how much strength God gives us as we turn to him and ask for His help. I can find so much fun and joy in those types of things now and I am so grateful!

This week I challenge everyone to find a weakness in their lives and turn to God in humble, faithful prayer and ask him to strengthen you and watch as God will do so as long as you have that faith! “His grace is sufficient for all, that humble themselves before him”. Hope you guys have a great week!

Till next week, Elder Mortensen outa here!
