Week 9
Welp another week down haha and it’s a little different.
Elder Layton crashed the car into the side of the house while backing out of the garage. Tore off the whole front bumper hahah. He hurried and put it back on before I could get a picture but we will see who is driving after he makes a call to the mission president haha.
Haha Elder Layton and I made a goal to find a new person each day and wow the stories are crazy! Funny story... we were praying hard and trying to be followed by the spirit as we knocked and drove and knocked with no success. We were driving down one road when a squirrel ran out in front of us and stopped. It sat there and stared at us probably thinking that we were going to run it over. After it didn’t move after like 10 seconds, I said wherever this squirrel goes, we go. Elder Layton laughed thinking I was joking but then the squirrel ran to the house on the right and I said come on Layton! We knocked the door and met a Texas Rangers fan. He was excited to see us, took a Book of Mormon and wanted to meet again… the Lord works in mysterious ways and I thought that depicted it perfectly ahahah!
Another person we found while trying to complete our goal is named Robin. She is considered a “golden” person haha. We found her knocking doors and wow she is amazing!! She opened the door hesitantly and said hi. We said we are the missionaries and she was like “ok let me go get my flip flops”. She comes outside, and we talk a walk and share background from both of us. We sat down at some chairs about 5 minutes from her house and we started teaching the restoration of the gospel. The first question she asked was, “do I have to be born into the church or… like how do i become a member”. We talked about baptism and I have so much to say but don't want to make this email too long so I will tell you guys the most important, cool, parts. She brought up church herself and asked if she could please come to church on Sunday. We were like uhhhh, OF COURSE!!! Anyways, she came to church!! Yes!! She asked how to be baptized we told her!! She asked herself without us bringing it up if she could have a Book of Mormon! We were like uhhhh, OF COURSE!!! We challenged her to read the introduction and pray about it. She said, “oh I will be reading more than the introduction”... we were like… yep you do that!!! Haha. She is amazing, so kind, so exciting, so we are super hyped for that haha!!
Its transfers this week and wow I have heard some news regarding transfers… and wow it is a change but you guys have to wait till next weeks’ email to find out what change this is haha!!
Quote for the week, ummm coming up with this on the fly, “Step up, or step down… you choose”. This isn't a missionary quote. It can be used for all aspects of life!! We should always continue to strive to the best of our abilities!! We have ONE life, why not do something with it!!
I am so grateful for the opportunity to be on this wonderful earth and have life here! I am so grateful that I am able to be on a mission and strengthen my testimony every single day!! I love the gospel so much and can’t wait to continue to learn more and share my love for the gospel of Jesus Christ.
Till next week, Elder Mortensen, outta here
