Week 6
Welp, another week down! I feel I'm finally settling down and getting in a groove. Other than I have a cold haha which for some reason won't go away haha!
So one of the coolest things I saw this week was an armadillo. Did you know that Texas will give you a cash reward if you get rid of an armadillo because they are known for eating up all the farm food. So they say if you kill it, you get a reward, at least that’s what I am told. Most get killed by getting ran over. It is called a “texas speed bump” haha. We found one this week, picture attached, but we didn't feel right to kill it haha!
I don't think I've talked about my companions much but I am in a trio. Elder Benson is from Blackfoot, Idaho and lived on a farm. He loved to wrestle and was very good at it. Elder Layton (who is my trainer) is from Ohio. He is the middle child of 13 kids which is kinda insane so that’s a little something with them. Elder Layton’s original call was to London, England and this week he finally got an email about his visa. We are waiting for further instruction on that whole process so that’s exciting and we will see where that leads!
Now for spiritual side… we’ll start it off with a quote of the week. “It’s amazing what we are able to do when we simply refuse to give up.” Love that quote so much. It gives me so much motivation and passion for just about every single aspect of my life. Find a way that this quote can apply to you this week!!
Before I got here my companions baptized a sister named Kristi. It’s been about a month since her baptism and we introduced her to family history last week. This week we made names to take to the temple for baptisms for the dead. We are scheduled to go the Dallas Temple and I am so excited to go with her and my companions and see the excitement of the temple for her.
A 12 year old boy named Ryes (sounds like “Reece”) was never baptized as a 8 year old because his family said he doesn't need to. It created a lot of drama and hardship in their whole family and kind of tore them apart. The family said they will support him in whatever he wants to do in his life. We have been meeting with him and this week we had dinner with him and his grandparents. We taught the importance of baptism and we extended an invitation to be baptized and he said he would like to. So amazing! He has a desire and passion to be baptized. So proud of him and his decision. We are meeting with him tonight to set up a baptism date so yay for him and his desire!
Love this gospel more than anything and am so blessed to be a part of it and gathering of Israel! Find ways this week to be Christlike and watch your joy expound!
Till next week, Elder Morty outta here
