Week 43
Holy cow, I am so bad at writing emails and I’ll be honest I'm just getting lazy but let’s hop right into it.
So my last email I mentioned I was heading to a bike area. And wow, being on a bike is absolutely amazing. We are able to talk to every single person we want to talk to. Stopping at a street light, waving to every person, seeing someone with car trouble, we are there. But the real tough part is that my companion is a 8 year long competitive mountain bike racer. Are you kidding me? Ya, he cooooooks me in the dust. He said I am keeping up really good, but I am just faking it and have to play if off like I am not absolutely dying! AND WOW! THE HEAT MY FRIENDS SHOOOOOOSH! It is just stupid hot. We get the temps and the humidity but the lord doesn’t take a break and we didn't either. I just had to accept that I would be sweating and won't stop sweating until i get home at 9:30 each night.
We had so many amazing miracles in Hurst. It’s been amazing and there are so many souls that we’ve been able to teach and it’s been a blast!! But then one Saturday we had more time at home so I thought it would be a good idea to drink a lot of water in an effort to hydrate myself for the next couple days. I ended up drinking around 3 ½ gallons of water again not realizing it was going to be anything but healthy… and that was saturday night Sunday morning i woke up and WOWWWWW was i so sick. So pretty much i gave myself water intoxication so my head was pounding, my stomach was cramping, i was confused and wanting to throw up. I sat there sunday morning on the bathroom floor just like dead hahahah and it was no good. To make things worse, I had to give a talk in sacrament meeting that day. I told my companion that i would have to tap out on this and have to say it later. He very much so guilt tripped me and i was very mad at him, haha but I went to church, may have had some waterery eyes giving that talk and the rest of the day because i was in so much pain. But my comp insisted i was fine and “elder its 20 min talk and then your fine the rest of the day” so i gave my talk and i winged the whole thing and somehow finished right on time… not sure what i said because I was confused and had no idea what happened.
First night in the Hurst area and my comp says, “Elder, in the morning, as soon as you turn on the lights make sure you grab the raid and spray all the roaches.” Yep, we got the roaches everywhere and ya I am not a fan. Had to keep all our food and everything in our tubs and it was so annoying but hey it’s another day alive we good haha! We moved the fridge one day because they were getting bad and killed probably 100-150 roaches as fast as we could spray, like ultra fast, and that stuff smelled SOOOOO BAD we had to wear sealed masks and ya not fun!!
We have taught many people in our area one of them being lucy, eduardo, cameron, larry, each of these amazing souls are progressing towards baptism and its so amazing each one of their stories and how they have come closer to our savior jesus christ! Lucy is getting baptized very soon, cameron is getting baptized very soon and eduardo is a 14 year old boy who leaves his home each day and comes running in a very dirty oversized t shirt… okay let me explain this so it makes sense.
Imagine you’re in a huge field with a pavilion because that’s where we meet for our lessons with Eduardo. He lives in some apartments about a 6 min walk from the pavilion. Eduardo is a 14 year old immigrant that lives with his family. All his dad wants eduardo to do is work for his future but eduardo wants to know where he’s going when he passes away. He wants to know the truth and each time we meet he is always running to us. He has a book of mormon in hand, wearing a very big oversized dirty muddy t-shirt and he’s running to us. A smile on his face and ready to learn about the gospel of Jesus Christ! My friends, this will be one of my favorite memories of my mission. To see someone wanting the truth so very bad that he’s RUNNING TO US!!!!! He is running to his Savior! I love it! He’s such an example to me.
So day 1 we had a leak in our ceiling from a vent and so Elder Guthrie, my new comp said, just pull it down so we did and made a huge mess and shattered the tiles on our wall in the process and broke a lot of things… welp it was his idea not mine hahahah ill shoot a pic in here about it.
Quick turn of events…. The Hurst apartment was a short one and I am now living in Euless with 2 zone leaders and I am serving as District leader. We are living in Euless and covering both areas and… I am back to a car.
We have 2 baptisms this upcoming Saturday. We have been teaching someone named brendalee and then a 10 yr old boy named navene and they are both so excited for their baptisms and im so excited for them!!
So now in this Euless apartment instead of roaches we have fat ton of these ugly beetles and we have no idea how they get in every single crack of the walls and its so werid and annoying they crawl everywhere and ya ugh not a fan of these little boogers yikes they like to find your toes i swear hahahah not a fan!!
There’s probably a lot of things I’ve forgotten to talk about but i just want leave with a quick spiritual thought… my friends ahhahah and family Eduardo, holy cow, its literally one of the best things of my mish seeing someone with such a deep desire to know of the truth. I like to imagine him running in worn down clothes with a Book of Mormon in his hand. You can’t get a better image of a soul awaiting the kingdom of God!! He has a desire to know the truth and i know that each of us can have that desire!! We can be the person running towards God, leaving everything behind… leaving our nets and running to Christ!! I am so grateful for this gospel and the opportunity to have a chance to be a part of it.
Till next week, Elder Mortensen, outta here!
