Week 59
Ahhh another week down, this week was a little bit different! Well first we've had to make about 4 trips to Firestone Tire today because our tire got slashed overnight by someone! But this week…I've always been SOOO bad at doing member work and the area has created a needed us to start doing member work! Every apartment complex and most houses have just been knocked twice three or four times! So we've tried to tackle member work more, and Pres has encouraged us to find different ways of finding...LIKE playing softball and WOWWWWW has it been one of the most fun parts of my mission!
So a member invited us one night to come be a sub on his team. He is the only member and his son is serving a service mission. I was super nervous!!! Haven’t played in over 15 months and was scared I would embarrass myself! So I get on the field said a Lil prayer, and out we played! One of the best parts of my mission...I actually did pretty well. So the team we played needed a sub and they asked me to play with them! I was like ummm yep hahaha, so I got to play a back to back games...ALL OF NON MEMBERS?!?!?! Holy cow the amount of questions that were asked was just too good to be true!
My companion was prosd up and talking to some people in the stands with the service missionary son while I played! They would ask why are you on a mission, did you play college ball, why did you choose a mission over baseball - just things that are just perfect to enter into the gospel discussion with! Turns out the member that invited us gave away our number to a couple of people that night as well and they have asked that we come back and play with them!
The following week same thing, double header with the member and them a sub for a random team! So 3 games that night, we've done this I think either 3 or 4 times. The last time was the best and funniest by far hahaha! First game played was with the member and his team... I slid head first... into a base... uh, probably shouldn't have but it was natural reflexes hahaha got a nasty turf burn! After that game, I subbed for another team I hadn't played with before...talked to them all a bunch as well. Then I was like WOW great 2 games lets head home, but word had gotten around that there was some kid that was subbing for everyone so this random team across the stadium came over and asked if I could sub for their team. I was in just COMPLETE JOY, I get 2 of the best things in the world - baseball and spreading the gospel!
The last team was my favorite…turns out on this team I am the only white boi haha! So I was playing left center field and there was a huge dude up to bat and he hit a HUGE FLY BALL way into the night it was so dark even with the over head lights no one could see it. I was blessed by the Lord and saw it right off the bat, so I started running and NO ONE ELSE WAS MOVING!!! I sprinted from all the way in left field and caught it on the run in right field! I swear no one moved. On our way back to the dugout, they were all laughing and i was like what?! I asked why no one was going for it they all laughed and said we were just watching "white lightning" running across the field hahahaha. So now lo and behold my nickname now is White Lightning to literally everyone there and I'm chillin with it! The rest of the game "aye yo white lighting you up to bat" Idk if it's a good thing or bad thing but in the end... it's always about who we represent! And that is Christ! So whatever the nickname, they all know I’m a missionary for the restored church on the earth today!!!!!:))))) Anyways its been good out here in Hurst! My greenie Elder Lunt is adjusting well, we've been putting in the work on bikes, in car, walking - its been good! He's great! I hope y'all have a great rest of your week!
Till next week, Elder Mortensen (White lightning) outta here!
